For some months now word out there has been that Calvin Gibbs has some very special sailing talent, and this was finally proven today when he won the final race of the Laser Youth Worlds in Sanya, China.

His biggest disappointment must be his performance in the penultimate race where he finished 19th, as had he been just a single place higher he would have finished with the Bronze Medal, as his results show that he tied 4th, but lost the medal on countback.

More impressive though is the fact that he was just 3 points off 2nd overall and 6 off winning overall!

Irrespective of this, his is a very fine performance, and one which will give him confidence for his future sailing career.

Sonja Stock ended 26th overall out of 40 boats, with two 5th places being her highlights.

In the Boys 420 Benji Daniel and Rivaldo Arendse were 22nd out of 26, and never really got going. Yet this combination may well be one which blossoms in the future.

In the Girls 420 Michaela Robinson and Elsje Dykstra were 17th out of 25.
