Henry Vink is the author of today’s feature as he implores all yachties to cast off the shackles binding them to the land and go cruising.
Here he describes cruising in the Indian Ocean and its islands aboard his Vertue-Class sloop ‘Aldebaren’. He’s absolutely spot on when he says that Madagascar is just 900nm from Durban. And I totally agree with his conclusion which reads like this: “Some of my happiest memories are associated with cruises to these islands. The cyclone season ends in April. Arrange for your leave, get the boat ready. Go! This cruise will be the experience of a lifetime!
Henry Vink was a prolific boat builder who amongst other classes introduced the Stadt 34 to this country. The Vaal Dam, and many other waterways have yachts he built still providing pleasure to their owners.
