“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Flying Dutchman

By Richard Crockett

Today’s feature fascinated me as the opening image is an absolute corker which would, or should, entice most keen sailors to the FD class. But the teaser also interested me as it simply reads “-obviously too long, too fast, too complicated and too expensive”- but oh, what a thrill to sail!

That has FD written all over it!

The feature was reproduced by SA Yachting magazine in their June 1967 issue from Yachting World magazine. It was written as a letter to a young man contemplating joining the Flying Dutchman class.

I wonder if anyone knows how many FDs are active in South Africa today? Maybe a few alert readers will COMMENT?
