“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. First Inter-Provincial

Midmar Dam near Maritzburg was the ” neutral” venue for the first regatta under the new inter-provincial system . Here the breeze picks up towards the end of the third race, with Bryan Metcalfe coaxing his FD along. Midmar seems to have an assured future as a major dinghy-racing centre.

Natal were well and truly beaten by the Transvaal in South Africa’s first Inter-Provincial contest as they won three out of four races.

Midmar Dam was the venue for the first ever Inter-Provincial contest held in the form of a team race. Those watching, as well as those taking part, found it a fascinating experience.

The report comes with a full page of “people pics” – with many a recognisable face and many of the heroes of yesteryear depicted.
