Moth Worlds – Jof Heathcote Right Up with the Best

moth 01Jof Heathcote our man in Sorrento at the Moth Worlds has not filed a report yet, probably as after 3 races, and an exceptionally impressive performance too – he is 29th overall out of 148 competitors – and is ‘relaxing’.

Now these are not just ANY competitors, these are some of the best sailors in the world, and Heathcote was ahead of some of them today as he scored a 13th; 13th & 22nd.

He is ahead of Dean Barker of America’s Cup fame, and Rohan Veal a former multiple Moth World Champ.

But all is not well out on the water as Tom Slingsby, the reigning Laser Olympic Gold Medallist and Oracle Team USA strategist had this to say on his facebook page after racing:

“Day one of moth worlds. Had a 1,5,27. My tape over my drain hole came off so finished the day full of water. Race committee have had a shocker to start the regatta off. On day one they are running races when no one is foiling. Really need to find people who know what they are doing!”

Who would want to be the Race Officer in an event with so much talent and fire-power on the water amongst the competitors?

Go Jof, you have all the Jaapies rooting for you.
