“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. The 1967 National Regatta Off Durban

A highlight of the SAYRA National regatta off Durban was the visit of the world-class British Flying Dutchman experts Keith Musto and his crew Tony Morgan. Their visit was a splendid tonic to our senior Olympic class. Here they are in full cry…

Now here’s a report to get you teeth into as virtually the entire February issue of SA Yachting was dedicated to this regatta that happened 59 years ago.

It was described “as a national not soon to be forgotten”. Nearly 300 boats, 21 social events and hundreds of yachties jostling for position on the hard and in the car parks as there were on the start lines!

There are 14 pages in this report and many, many photos including two pages of “people pics”. So many names of people from yesteryear are mentioned in these pages that old salts and families will have a field day looking out for their loved ones.

There is more on this regatta to come tomorrow as “The lessons learnt from three weeks of hard racing” will be featured.
