It’s inevitable that one finds a wind-shift, especially a header, and has to tack. Well today is one of those days when with good intention I attempted to bring more Miura news, but a “header”diverted me and along came the Minister’s Cup in which Miura’s, high-profile sailors, boats and “jus sommer yachties” competed.
The 1976 Minister’s Cup was won by Paul Elvstrom aboard a new Elvstrom quarter tonner named ‘Impi’, with Bruce Mc Currach, Terry Clarence and Garth Hitchins as crew. Bobby Bongers sailing ‘Impact’, an Impact 30-footer, was second and Jurgen Coblenz sailing ‘Thore’, another Elvstrom quarter tonner, was third.
There are lots of great pics of the boats and people in this report, so grab a cup of coffee and savour the feature. Also included with this is a report on the Transvaal Keeler Champs.
Also featuring is a “Royal Cape Round Up” and a preview of the 1976 Rothmans Week. The ‘75 event had been won by a Miura.
What did catch my eye though was the brief editorial about a Miura “Planted in a Greenhouse”, as did the advert for a Miura hull, deck and bulkheads package for just R5 500.00 – yes, that figure of five and a half thousand Rand is correct.
