Yesterday I shared the Glenwood Ford Champion of Champions Match Racing report along with two additional reports on other subjects.
Yesterday’s report was possibly a little shy on some detail, especially regarding the Clarence / Provoyeur duel to determine the champion. Plus this report shows that duel in pictures – and just how cut-throat the racing was.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could resurrect Match Racing in this country again as it certainly turns the sport of sailing into a spectator sport. I clearly remember the “Champion of Champions” event well for many reasons, one being the huge spectator fleet anchored up against the sandbanks in Durban Harbour right on the edge of the course. And the rescue boat distributing Hillary Ralph’s hand-written results after each round.
Great memories and great sailing and a great event.
