My apologies for the long break, but I am back now with my daily offering.

Congratulations to Hermanus Yacht Club on winning the Lipton Cup over the weekend. Theirs was a great victory won in style with consistency over 10 races.

So, as this is an historical archive, I am able to bring you a newspaper cutting from the 1996 Lipton Cup when Hermanus Yacht Club last won with Martin Schultz and Geoff Meek as co-skippers.

This is how the Sunday Times previewed the event: “Seven previous Lipton Challenge Cup champion skippers, on today’s starting line in Table Bay, are keen for renewed glory.

“As determined as they were in their challenges, Dave Hudson; Greg Davis, Chris King, Rick Nankin, Bruce Savage, Etienne van Cuyck and Geoff Meek, are, still regarded as the cream of South African yachting.”
