“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. It May Be Neck and Neck

We are beginning to close in to the finish of Bruce Dalling’s epic dash across the North Atlantic where in the final days he put everything he had in to taking line honours.

The Western Morning News in Plymouth said this: “With Cornish hopes pinned on Geoffrey William’s 57ft ketch ‘Sir Thomas Lipton’ in the Single-handed Transatlantic Race, there was a report last night that he is being hotly pursued by South African Bruce Dalling in the 50ft ketch ‘Voortrekker’. Williams, a 25 – year – old teacher, radioed that he was about 400 miles out from the end of the race, but reports showed that Bruce Dalling was only 50 miles behind him”.

The finish was definitely beginning to look like it could develop into a very close affair.

I will also share a newspaper cutting this morning on Joan de Kat who looked very happy after being rescued.
