“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. 1988 Optimist Nationals + 10 Pics

by Richard Crockett

The form book went out of the window for this regatta as according to the report by Hans Thysse as the form book went out of the window.

“In the Optimist class, the form book was all but thrown away. Although the new National Champion, Donovan (“Donny”) Tait from Knysna was known to be a good skipper, he was certainly not one of the hot favourites for the title, although consistent sailing on his behalf paid handsome dividends. “Veleron” Nicholas Cloete from Hermanus turned out a good performance to finish second, but many other “hot shots” had to be satisfied with places far further down the ladder than they would
have liked.”
