South Africans Bobby Bongers with Geoff Myburgh as crew finished 12th, and Geoff Paterson whose crew I am not sure about, also competed in this regatta at Whitstable, Kent. Geoff Paterson wrote the report for SA Yachting magazine, and reported as follows:
“The impression gained from what we saw of the helmsmen at Whitstable was that Capio in those condition – that is, a steady light 5 to l0-knot breeze, with fairly big uncomfortable slop running out in the bay – was pretty well unbeatable. From all accounts the identical condition can be expected in Naples next year which makes him a very strong favourite for the Olympic Games title.”
For those who know the FD and the South Africans competing, this is an interesting report.
