World Sailing’s Nations Cup Match Racing

Expression of Interest

South African Sailing (SAS) has been offered two entries (one male team and one female team) for the Nations Cup Match Racing finals in San Francisco from 9 to 14 April 2019. The event will take place in the J22 class. This is an event in which we have been successful in the past and we feel it provides a unique opportunity to re-introduce this form of sailing into South Africa and to compete against the best in the world.

Notice is hereby given of the intention to hold a qualification event for the selection of a South African male and female teams to attend this event.

It is the intention to hold the South African qualification event between 28 Feb and 3 March 2019 at the Vaal Dam, subject to sufficient countrywide interest. The event will be held in J22 class yachts with the following crew requirements:

• Male teams – Crew of 4 with combined weight between 330 and 350kg
• Female team – Crew of 4 with combined weight between 257 and 272kg

The crew number and maximum weight requirements are as per the Notice of Regatta and do not follow J22 Class rules. In the case of interested females any sailor who would like to compete, but may not have others to sail with at this stage should send their names and preferred position on the boat to the email address below (saswc@sailing.org.za). This group of sailors could then be connected to sail together or be invited by a skipper of an entered team perhaps to join that team.

Submitting your details in no way commits either SA Sailing or the skipper and crew to the selection event, but is to be used to gauge interest and confirm the location for the event.

On receipt of sufficient interest in order to schedule the event a formal NOR will be published. Items detailed above may be amended in the final notice of regatta that will be published by 22 December 2018.
