Witbank Yacht Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary in August.

According to ‘Yachting in Southern Africa’ by Anthony Hocking, the club was inaugurated in 1967 when it first used the Municipal slipway at the Witbank Dam on the Olifants River.

The original prefabricated clubhouse was destroyed in a storm at the end of the 1969-70 season, and anew prefab building was completed on 6 acres of land leased from Rand Mines.

The dam has an area of approximately 800 hectares when full.

The 50th Anniversary celebrations are on 26 August 2017.
