Mileage Building Opportunities between March and May.
JML Rotary Scout have some opportunities for skippers and crew wanting to do some mile building aboard their 39’ Tosca ‘Rotary Scout’ from March to May this year as we are taking her up to Durban to participate in the Vasco da Gama Race from Durban to Port Elizabeth in April.
Below are the intended date ranges for each leg to allow for some flexibility to take advantage of weather windows. The dates have also been chosen to coincide with weekends and public holidays.
We are looking for both skippers and crew to compliment our in-house skippers and crew and if someone is interested could they please contact me with their name, age, sailing qualifications (if any), experience and reason for wanting to participate in a coastal trip – e.g. mile building, experience, night watch hours etc.
There will be overnight passages in each of the legs of course and the boat has accommodation for up to 8 people, including the skipper. The cost per day spent on the boat will be a minimal R250 donation per person to cover fuel and boat maintenance costs and once agreed to, payment of a particular leg will secure a berth. Food provisioning will be agreed on by the crew beforehand and is being budgeted for separately at R85 per person per day all-in.
Those participating in any of the legs will need to get to and from the boat themselves but if need be can spend the odd additional night on the boat at each destination at no additional cost, either before or after a passage (or both) to allow for flexibility in travel and actual passage times taken. Some skippers and crew will be offering to share road transport to and from destinations. All crew will participate fully in the sailing of the boat, including sail trimming, navigation and helming as well as participating in day and night watches.
CT to Mossel Bay: 18-20 March
Mossel Bay to East London: 24-28 March
East London to Durban: 1-4 April
Vasco da Gama Race Durban to Port Elizabeth: 23-27 April.
If participating in this race there is an additional race entry fee of R650 per person.
Algoa Bay Race: 30 April -1 May.
If participating in this race there is an additional race entry fee of R150 per person.
Port Elizabeth to Mossel Bay: 6-8 May
Mossel Bay to Cape Town: 14-15 May
