“Talking Sailing”. The “Angels” Finish on the Podium

The “Angels” of ‘AlexForbes Archangel’ have finished third overall on handicap.

What a brilliant race the “Angels” aboard ‘AlexForbes Archangel’ had in the Cape to Rio Race, finishing yesterday and achieving a podium finish in third place.

That’s a really good result for this very young team who showed, no, proved, that where there is a will there is a way, and that if one shoots for the stars anything and everything is possible.

It’s not easy racing across an ocean as it takes serious skill, built up over many years of ocean racing and ocean crossings, to be able to drive a yacht to it’s full potential day-in-and-day-out- for 24-plus days. Yet Sibusiso Sizatu, skipper of ‘AlexForbes Archangel’ and her crew very came close to doing that as he was just two hours behind second place on overall handicap time. That’s a wonderful achievement.

This crew will be the pride of the Royal Cape Yacht Club sailing academy for a long time to come.

Thanks must go to AlexForbes for believing in this young team and for backing them to the hilt and giving them all the resources they needed to race across the South Atlantic ocean safely.

While this crew deserve all the accolades coming their way, one must also not forget that Adrian Kuttel’s race, singlehanded and in the smallest yacht in the fleet, will go down in Rio Race history as not only a gutsy performance, but a race-winning one too.
