The yacht building industry has advanced in leaps and bounds, especially in terms of material and building methods, with the quest always appearing to be on lightness, stiffness and weight-saving generally. A far cry from days of yore!
I was attracted to this feature as this subject is always one debated at length, but also because of the reference to the Dragon built for Justice Caney of Durban – and the brief mention of the Lipton Cup results.
The feature opens like this: “In yacht building, perhaps, particularly, it is wise to heed the adage which states that the man for the job is he who has for it the equipment, the knowledge and the experience. And especially is this the case when the customer is so far away that he cannot visit the firm he chooses.
“But there are other points which should be considered: the reputation of the chosen firm for quality, delivery and fair dealing.”
How true is that second paragraph?
