It was 35 years that the L34 was first exposed as a concept and 36 years ago since the first one, ‘Solar Wind’ was launched.
She was designed by Angelo Lavranos with big input from David Cox and John Gordon-Thompson, and built by John Robertson Yachts under the weather eyes of both John Robertson and Jerry Caine.
To say that she “made her mark” in South African sailing circles is an understatement as L34s were campaigned for many years by the top sailors and crew in this country, and sailed to victory in many of the top round-the cans and ocean races in our country.
Today I am sharing three different editorials about the L34 as follows:
October 1985. The new L34 – a bullet-proof one-design. READ IT HERE: Pages from 1985 10 – SAILING Magazine – OCR
August 1986. L34 number 1 launched: READ IT HERE: Pages from 1986 08 – SAILING Magazine – OCR
