In researching material for today I came across this wonderful editorial, and while not strictly about the Miura, a Miura does feature quite prominently. To appease those expecting more exclusive Miura material, I have added in 11 Miura pics that I already have scanned into my archives.
The first part of this editorial covers the passage of ‘Dabulamanzi’ which sailed the Roaring Forties route from Rio to Cape Town. Brendan Boyle, a journalist who covered the race for a newspaper, and who had dreams to sail the world in a small yacht, wrote this piece.
In concluding his report Boyle said this: “There were lessons learnt about space, dryness, eating and a hundred and one other things. All of us will go to sea as wiser sailors now, but not one wished he had not made the voyage.”
The second part, written by Bill Rabinowitz, covered the passages of several other yachts returning from Rio. One of those was the Miura ‘Dawn’ which was dismasted just before the finish in Rio, and again almost in sight of Cape Town. Her story is told here, as is that of others.
