This regatta was obviously a very important one as it is covered in almost eight pages in the November 1966 issue of SA Yachting magazine.
There were some 200 boats competing at Aeolians Club on the Vaal Dam – the very first time this club had ever hosted a key regatta.
Another first was the fact that two courses were set – with each having its own committee boat from which the starting signals were made. Up until this regatta all starts were from a Club Bridge or the shoreline, so having a committee boat was novel.
Competing were the following classes: Flying Dutchmen; Finns; Spearheads; 505s; Sharpies; Sprogs; Enterprises; OK Dinghies; Dabchicks and GP 14s.
