The 1971 Cape to Rio Race was something very special, not just for the competitors, but also for the public who simply loved the idea of a bunch of amateurs crossing an ocean on small boats. So they followed the race closely, as did I as a teenager.
So I was delighted to have come across some negatives in my archives of Albatross II, taken at sea, and then a few others of some race yachts, probably in the Bay of Islands, after the race. And then some random shots of a few people.
I am able to identify all the people aboard Albatross II, thanks to John Green.
The others – well someone may have an idea and be able to give a hint as to who they are? If so, please drop me an email (editor@sailing.co.za) or respond online.
