Here’s a gentle way to ease you into the new week and have you dreaming of new sailing destinations.
The feature is sub-titled “Or, what are you doing with your family next winter?”
It’s about some “trailer-sailing Vaalies” sailing from Maputo to Ilha Da Inhaca as a wonderful opportunity to escape the Highveld winter, find their sealegs and cruising to and around the most southerly tropical reef in Africa.
The flotilla consisted of one Holiday 23 ‘Aquafox’, two MacGregor 26s, ‘Kokamoya’ and ‘Eualina’, three dinghies, four teenagers, five youngsters and six adults.
The author, Ray van Rensburg, closed with these words:
Was it all worth the effort? Was it affordable? Was it safe? Was it a true family affair? Will we do it again? The answer is YES to all questions except the last, to which the answer is “most definitely!”
A word of warning though, while they followed procedures and protocol to the letter, things may well have changed, especially the prices mentioned, so if planning a similar passage, be aware of possible changes.
