One has to remember that these are still early days in the Cape2 Rio race as the fleet has been at sea for just 5 days now. Yet in those five day some have achieved the first goal of completing the 1000 nautical miles, while others still have a day or more to get there.
Still steam very fast and showing that he means business is the single-hander Adrian Kuttel on ‘Atalanta’ who again in the last 24 hours has had the best run of the entire fleet, covering 208nm. Next best was ‘Nemesis’ with 192nm. These two even outsailed the 65-footer ‘Translated 9′ in terms of distance sailed, with Atalanta being 33′ and Nemesis 42 feet in overall length.
The above alone shows what an incredible performance Kuttel is putting in. He thoroughly deserves to be wearing the winner’s crown as overall leader.
I was delighted to see that the youngsters aboard AlexForbes Archangel put in a good performance over the last 24 hours, improving their boat speed and pulling themselves up to third overall on handicap.
