Way back in 1985 Roy Heiner claimed the Finn Nationals off Durban, narrowly beating Ali Serritslev. According to the report these two were rarely more than 50 metres apart on the race course.
Also offshore were the 505s sailing their Nationals. Rob Willcox and Ditmar Herman were the victors with a perfect 0 points score, ahead of Harry and Anton Ellens with 12 points.
The KZN Finn Provincials were sailed in 25 knot winds and six-metre swells, and again Heiner took the honours with Trevor Donald the runner-up.
The KZN Hobie Provincials were won by Andrew Culbert and Clive Smith.
In a small fleet of Spearheads Stephan Kuhn won the event with 5 wins, followed by Gert Bohnsak. Kuhn credited his victory to “skill and judgement”.
