Yesterday I shared a newspaper cutting entitle “Fastnet Fury” which gave a brief account of the 1979 Fastnet storm.
Today, it all hangs out as the fury of that storm is revealed in graphic images and well chosen words to give landlubbers some idea of just how terrifying it was out there.
And in amongst those intrepid yachties fighting that storm were a crew from Port Elizabeth who had chartered a yacht for the race – and to their credit they finished the course. Our local yachties, used to the tough conditions along our coastline, did all South Africans proud.
