“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Early Pics of Voortrekker

By Richard Crockett

As a change today I will share some images of Voortrekker under construction and on one of her road trips – of which she did two.

Both were undertaken with great fanfare, the first was being from the Thesens yard in Knysna to Cape Town, and later one from Cape Town to Johannesburg where she went on show to give her landlocked supporters an opportunity to view her.

Enjoy the selection.

And where would Stan Mar Motors be?
Everyone came out to see Voortrekker go by. Mayors of towns and other dignitaries gave speeches. Don’t you love this family pic?

On her way to Cape Town through the Garden Route.
This looks as if it may be on the main road through Bantry Bay?
