“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Drifting in the Lee of Fantasy Islands

by Richard Crockett

Yesterdays cruise on the fringe of the Roaring Forties in a Miura brought a slew of positive reactions, so here is another, also in a Miura. This time we follow the wake of David and Margie Trinder who set sail in their Miura ‘Khoisan’ from Cape Town in January 1987 and returned in November 1989, having covered some 30 000 nautical miles.

Living a moment of which we had dreamed, Margie and I watched the peaks of Tahiti emerge over the hazy horizon. We put on the JJ Cale tape as we had imagined we would months before in Cape Town. The speakers bellowed his rasping voice full volume “Let’s go to Tahiti,” while Margie and I sat back in the cockpit and watched a dream become reality as the most famous island in the South Pacific took shape before our eyes.

This feature is another interesting read.
