Bruce Dalling’s fine second place in the OSTAR was mired in controversy when a protest was lodged in his name against the winner Geoffrey Williams and his yacht ‘Sir Thomas Lipton”.
Dalling, who sailed ‘Voortrekker’ to second place in the Plymouth-Newport race, said that under no circumstances would he make any protest against the result.
He said there was not a single doubt in his mind that the ‘Sir Thomas Lipton’s’ skipper, Geoffrey Williams, had won the race fairly and squarely.
“It is up to me to protest, and if they (the trustees) protest I will fight this all the way. They should get in touch with me as I sailed ‘Voortrekker’ and the decision is up to me,” he said adamantly.
