I thought it may be useful for competitors and landlubbers alike to benefit from feature articles on how to get from Cape Town to Rio by yacht, so have included two feature articles today.
The first was specially written by Commander Tim Sex (yes, that really was his surname), for the 1971 Cape to Rio Race official brochure. One needs to keep in mind that this was written some 52+ years ago, yet the basics should not have changed much at all.
The second is a feature entitled “Weather Outlook” written by Matthew Thomas and goes in to some detail as to what competitors could expect. He sectionalises it all and covers the three key areas, being:
1. Leaving Cape Town
2. Riding the South Atlantic High
3. Approaching Rio
Choosing the right course and reading the weather patterns well, are all part of a successful race.
