“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Class & Club News

By Richard Crockett

Here’s more Class and Club news from the May/June issue of SA Yachting magazine – with many interesting references to people, places, trophies and yachts – making it compelling reading for those with a thirst for knowledge about days of yore.

Class News covers:
• FD class
• Sharpie class
• Dabchick class
• Goodricke class
• Finn class

The Clubs section covers:
• Federal regatta
• Royal Natal yacht Club
• Royal Cape Yacht Club
• Island Sailing Club
• Cape Power Boat & Ski Club
• East Rand Yacht Club
• Mossel Bay Yacht Club
• Zeekoevlei Yacht Club
• Enterprises at Umgusa

News of interest was that the Dabchick was nearing 300 boats and the University of Natal Yacht Club (UNYC) was constituted.

There’s mention of the Paraffin Cup for the Easter Race to Saldanha – more than of passing interest as that “cup” is still awarded today, and will be up for grabs soon when the Mykonos Race takes place in the next few weeks. ‘Zeeslang’ and ‘Parergon III’ are mentioned too.

As usual, there’s lots to digest!
