“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Car-Top Boat Transport!

A little trivia and fun today.

It’s easy to forget how difficult it was “in days of yore” to transport dinghies around from regatta to regatta, and some innovative people conjured up some creative ways of doing this, especially when it came to multiple boats.

Some old pics from the archives illustrate this – like 3 Finns being transported by a single Peugeot station-wagon, or a Spearhead (possibly Andy) atop a Volksie Bus! But one could do anything with a Volksie Bus – or so the advertising blurb said!

The woman with the double-decker trailer simply says “Mrs Whittle”. I can only assume that she was standing guard after the loading as the men went for a thirst-quencher? Those boats look well tied down and their masts sleeved with covers, so whoever did this had done it before.

No info , just the words : Mrs Whittle.
Not sure who he is and where he was loading his Sprog. Maybe an “old salt” may recognise him?
Probably two Andy dinghies. Would this have been the work of UCTYC students?
