“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Ainslie Unseated From Top Hunter Position

by Richard Crockett

Again today there are 11 different reports bringing back reports of the “good old days”.

Two immediately caught my eye – the first being “Loots Solo from Uruguay” – a very brief report stating that Frans Loots had sailed the Petersen 33 ‘Checkers Hyper’ singlehanded back from Uruguay. I have searched hard to find a full report on this passage but to no avail. I hope that Frans may have written a report which he will share with me?

Another was the fact that Ian Ainslie, a top Hunter sailor at the time, was beaten by Pieter and Helga von Bredow at the Transvaal Highveld Champs.
