“Talking Sailing” From My Archives. Ahoy There

By Richard Crockett

There is very little “newspaper news from yesteryear” of any major consequence in my archives, so having come across this cutting during my search, I have chosen this very short picture caption piece for good reason.

Cherry McIvor is a great follower of this blog who has followed my scribblings for years. I met her “way back when” during the first-ever Intervarsity Regatta at Midmar in 1976 (I think!). She is an avid sailor, both dinghy and keelboat, and before emigrating to New Zealand was a force to be reckoned with in Algoa Bay.

Thanks for your on-going support Cherry.

The caption to the photo goes as follows:
AHOY THERE … Algoa Bay Yacht Club vice-commodore Cherry McIvor is calling on Port Elizabeth landlubbers and would-be yachties to join in the fun in this year’s sailing season, which opens on November 2. About 50 yachts are expected to take part in what promises to be a spectacular affair.
