Another Rothmans Week newspaper supplement today, this time from 1987 – yes, that’s 38 years ago.
I liked the following extract from the supplement, but can’t help but wonder whether the yachties felt the same? “It is marked by tough but clean competition, with arch foes normally growling at one another above the wind as they push their boats to the limits.
“But afterwards when they stand shoulder-to-shoulder, eight-deep around the bar – the “teak reef” – they discuss the day’s racing in a friendly and sometimes boisterous atmosphere.
“Even if a protest has been lodged, the parties normally emerge sportsmenlike enough to shake hands and buy each other a round.”
Comments are always appreciated!
