I am always interested to read the results of “yesteryear” especially when a good number of those people are still in the sport, with some still competing quite competitively today. Plus it gives one the opportunity of remembering some of the legends of our chosen sport.
This mini-feature opens with these words: “For the statistics freaks, or for those long arguments around the bar on winter nights, or simply just to record their names, here are the national champions of the last season. Its interesting to see the diversity, and how in the SAYRA recognised classes, nobody managed to capture more than one title. Bang goes the “professional jockey” theory! In fact, the only person to win two nationals this year was Roy Heiner. After clinching the highly competitive Laser event, he rounded off his best ever season by winning the 505 nationals offshore Durban in a borrowed boat!”
I found it an interesting and enjoyable read.
