This is the 4th event I have covered in this series now, and still it is quite small and very localised despite attracting some attention from outside of the Vaal Dam. However all events take time to gather momentum, gain interest and indeed the trust of sailors, before blossoming forth and becoming great events.
To grow one needs to re-evaluate the event each year, include more of what was good in the following year, and discard that which never really came off or was not appreciated by competitors.
The proof of the pudding is always in the eating, with the Round the Island race on the Vaal Dam going on to break records, even achieving recognition in the Guinness Book of Records.
The report from SA Yachting is pretty truncated, starting with some pics on one page, followed by the report on another, and then having to turn a page to get the results!
I have purposely not deleted the adjacent pages to this feature as there are some interesting bits to read and pics to view.
