These multi-class regattas always attract a huge following, and as the 1964 event was at Allemanskraal, there should be additional interest as this was a relatively new venue for regattas. Plus there are 6 pages of reading!
Bianca Lavies reported on the regatta and took the photos, saying this: “A magnificent stretch of water, with game along the shores, peacocks roaming round the rondavel s and an enormous tent down near the launching area was the scene of the S.A.Y.R.A. national regatta held at the Willem Pretorius Game Reserve at Allemanskraal.
“Adding an extra nautical atmosphere to the tent town were names like Sprog Lane, Sharpie Alley and Dutchman Boulevard!
“The sailing waters were spectacular. The dam is 12 miles long, 1 ½ miles wide near the dam. Most course were round the three islands in the middle – which was perhaps one of the few complaints as they tended to take the wind.”
