RC Lasers Valentines Regatta

report by RCL 120

After some debate about the possibility of rain before sailing yesterday it was decided to ‘give it a go’ which was the correct decision. The rain in general held off with maybe a drop or two in one of the 9 races that were sailed.

The wind was from the south west with the strength being from a little nose diving on the run to complete drifting and everything in between.

The shifts couldn’t be called shifts, but rather wind direction changes, and in my opinion the conditions were only just bearable if you were in the lead!!!

RCL8 Bjorn Hanssen & RCL23 Norrie Taylor sailed exceptionally well in the challenging conditions and apart from race 9 that was won by RCL13 Bruce Schnell, Norrie & Bjorn shared all of the other eight race wins. Unfortunately for Norrie he ran out of batteries in race 7 so missed 3 races and Bjorn ran out of batteries in race 9.

It was good to see new boy on the block RCL82 Gerald Taljaard finally on the water and finishing a few races.

Thank you to Peter Marklew for assisting with the race starts and position recordings.

Don’t Forget: Mad March Regatta on Sunday 2 March 2014.
