Product News. Winch Seat

Tides, a Norwegian boat equipment provider, launched their first product, a winch seat, in 2015. The product named ‘WinchSeat’ is an innovative product raising the cockpit experience on sailboats. The seat has a peg which fits into the swivel hole on top of the winch, providing a new elevated sitting spot with great overview. The seat can be used when the winch is idle, typically during calm sailing or when the boat is docked.

Depending on the number of winches onboard, the social seating capacity can be increased significantly. Regardless, the WinchSeat provides a new spot to kick back and enjoy the view and life on the sea.

The current product is made in Norway, and by using powder coated sheet aluminium as the main material, the initial investments have been kept at a minimum. It also allows for smaller production runs, which have been essential in an early phase.

Tides have received valuable user feedback during the last two seasons with the seat on the market and the new version is based heavily on this. But the new version will be made in a plastic composite, which gives a significantly lighter seat. The manufacturing cost will also be reduced drastically, allowing Tides to offer the seat to a broader market while maintaining the well-received design and functionality of the aluminium version.
