This past weekend saw the annual Port Owen River Race, a regatta in the Western Cape Dinghy Epic Series, which includes the non-conventional, round-the-cans regattas. The event is becoming a firm favourite due to its fun nature of sailing on the river and dealing with very strong tides and the combination of river and St Helena Bay sailing in a picturesque setting.
The weekend was a beautiful and hot West Coast summer weekend – and saw two river races on Saturday and a race on Sunday from the river, out into the beautiful St Helena Bay for 1.5nm and back into the river.
POYC hosted the traditional and legendary snoek braai on Saturday night where over 120 feasted!
A fantastically fun weekend for competitions and their supporters. The event has grown year on year since its inception 12 years ago and saw 57 entries this year and has pretty much reached its capacity of 60 entries.
