Phillippa Hutton-Squire has been forced to retire from the Route du Rhum race due to a compression crack at the spreaders of her mast after colliding with another boat in her class.

In my book Phillippa has been such an inspiration to many as she has gone about this campaign with such a positive attitude and has never let the obstacles get in her way. She will be back as this was simply the beginning of her singlehanded sailing career.
