Former RSA Sailor Nominated for Irish Sailing Association Award

Philip Bendon

Philip Bendon grew up in Glandore, Co. Cork, Ireland before moving to Cape Town. He started sailing Optimists before progressing to Laser 4.7s and Radials representing South Africa at multiple World and European championships. When Philip finished school he moved to Dublin before moving to Southampton to study Naval Architecture.

He also spent time working for the Chicago Match Race Centre where he learned to Match Race from the world champion Taylor Canfield. In 2013 Philip and his team won the Youth European Match Racing Championship. Philip’s personal long term goals include becoming the first Irish team to win the World Match Racing Tour and to one day compete in and win the Americas Cup.

He is one of three nominees for the Irish Sailing Association Sailor of the Year award.
