First National Bank (FNB) and DStv are proud to congratulate Skipper Craig Sutherland and his crew after steering the Explora yacht to becoming the first South African yacht and third overall to finish the 2014 Cape to Rio Yacht Race.

“We’re very proud of the amazing achievement that has been realised by the Explora team, especially as the conditions at the start of the race where very difficult for the teams. Our sponsorship of the Explora demonstrates FNB’s confidence in the team and our continued support for the boating industry in South Africa,” said Stephan Claassen, Provincial Head, FNB Western Cape.

DStv was equally elated with the feat realised by the Explora team. “We’re excited to be backing a team which continues to fly the South African flag across international shores. Yachting is a sport that continues to gain popularity in and outside of South Africa, and we’re delighted to support efforts which are aimed at broadening its reach,” Colleen Goodman, Senior Marketing Communications Manager said.

After announcing their joint sponsorship of the Explora yacht towards the end of 2013, FNB and DStv have been hosting a series of events to garner support and create awareness around the team’s participation in the 2014 Cape to Rio Yacht Race.

FNB and DStv also confirmed that plans are underway to welcome the Explora crew from their inspirational journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
