There are always people out there with a yearning to build a boat, cast off the shackles and burdens of every day life, and go cruising. Many can afford to buy a completed ready-to-go boat, although some will self-build to keep costs within their budget.
Thousands of monohulls have been self-built over time, but few multihulls, which is why Angelo Lavranos has come up with the Proteus 106 self-build cat.
“This project has been ‘gestating’ on a personal level for the last 10 years. My aim is the smallest family ocean cruising cat; that is to say with sufficient load carrying capacity to do an ocean crossing with a family, of minimum cost, and capable of amateur construction with the minimum of labour and skill,” said Lavranos.
