Cape 31 Summer in the South Regatta

by Luke Scott Table Bay provides an exceptionally beautiful setting for yacht racing, under the immense majestic gravitas of Table Mountain. However, in the middle of summer, the powerful south-easterly wind often wreaks havoc on the best sailing intentions: apart from the broaches and damage infliction, this wind and the airborne nippy seawater can also make for cold, wet and unpleasant sailing. Perhaps it is well deserving then that the colourful burst of energy and potential that is the Cape ... Read More »

Sprog Nationals 2017

by John Wright The Sprog Nationals had a disappointing entry of just ten boats as many promises were not fulfilled, and many entries that were expected just didn’t turn up. Regrettably that is sailing today as also experienced by the GP14 and Fireball fleets over the same period. On the positive side the racing was keen and close with Ricky and Ryan Robinson dominating the racing. Phillip Bennett & Helen gave a good chase as runners-up. The fight for the ... Read More »

by Sophie Thompson Three days of adverse conditions off Durban during the December long-weekend tested two small, competitive fleets of sailors competing in the Flying Fifteen Nationals and Hobie 16 Provincials, hosted by Point Yacht Club. In the Flying Fifteen Nationals, no strangers to being at the front of the pack in the Flying Fifteen class, Patrick Harris and Jeremy Kriek led throughout the regatta, impressively taking top honours in eight out of the nine races, finding it heavy going ... Novamarine West Coast Offshore Race

by Richard Crockett Having a passion for offshore racing I always do my best to follow these races as best as one can. Regrettably for me, the tracker system was not up to scratch and kept losing the entire fleet or groups of boats at regular intervals, and which simply does not supply sufficient info. I suppose though that it was better than nothing! I was impressed by one boat in particular – that being Indaba, the Stadt 34 sailed ... Read More »
