Boat Review: FarEast 28R

Recently a youthful Western Cape team headed to China to compete in a keelboat event, where they finished on the podium in third spot – a really good effort since they had never sailed the boat before.

The boat was the FarEast 28R, designed by the Simonis-Voogd partnership, and built in China. With Simonis being Cape Town-based, the dearth of new monohulls in this country, and no monohull builders locally, it is a design worth exploring – although whether it is viable to consider building it locally is open for debate especially as he is competitively priced and it fits inside a container.
