49er Worlds – Day 5

Willcox & Tarboton - day 2 Garda Olympic Regatta
Willcox & Tarboton – day 2 Garda Olympic Regatta

Graeme Willcox reports

Yesterday we sailed in a light dying sea breeze. The gold fleet were sent out at 09h00 to get their 4 races in, and after a postponement we were sent out around 14h30 and managed to get in 3 races.

The wind was switching through 30 degrees with big pressure changes, one minute you’re double wiring, the next you’re both in the boat. Lots of opportunities for gains and equally, losses too. We have our spare mast up and were battling for speed for most of the day, especially downwind. We finished up the day with a 29, 14 & 25
which has left us in 51st overall.

We will have our final 3 races this afternoon after the gold fleet finish off their finals series, and our races with be followed by the medal races for both 49ers and FX fleets.
