2018 Etchells Worlds. Voermann 11th Overall

William Voermann and his crew of Lucas Down and Gary Van Lunteren.

‘Our man’ William Voermann is knocking on the door for a top 10 finish as right now after 7 races he is in 11th spot, and with discards taken into account he is just a single point behind 10th place.

His last 3 races have seen him finish 27th; 15th and 8th – so he now has two top 10 finishes in an extremely HOT fleet of world class sailors.

Those of us who know, or knew Voermann in his prime when sailing in RSA, know that he is an exceptionally fine talented sailor who knows how to make a boat go fast. And to do it in this fleet is not remarkable or simply luck – it’s to his hard work and dedication too. He recently bought a top boat and has had some coaching from the former World Champ who sold him his trusty steed. So it’s his preparation and attention to detail, plus his uncanny ability to sail fast that has seen him rise rather rapidly in the Etchells fleet.

Let’s just hope he keeps it up and keeps away from being pinged on the Black Flag or U-Flag at the start.

It’s consistent sailing from here into the final races, as what is interesting is that just 3 boats in the top 10 have won races – meaning that the other 4 race winners have been anything but consistent!

Go for it William – “vasbyt” and show the fleet the determination of the “Japies” to finish on a high.
