Over several weeks the J22 Committee have been closely monitoring the advance of Covid 19, and speaking with all the stakeholders.
We believe that it would not be in anyone’s interests to try and continue to hold the World Championships in July.
Even if the virus has been contained by then, we are unsure of how this is going to affect South African businesses, the economy and participation.
Each country gets a chance to host the World Championships once every four years. We have been in communication with the International Class Officers across the world to obtain their advice on the way forward.
The International Classes have advised that plans for the 2021 Worlds are well under way in the USA but they are happy for South Africa to take the next slot and host the World Championships in 2022.
We are disappointed to not be able to continue with the plans for this year, but do believe we have no choice but to cancel for 2020 and start planning for 2022. Dates, location and sponsorship will all be considered when everyone has had a chance adapt to some semblance of normal life.
The J22 Nationals scheduled for 1-3 May have been cancelled.
J22 Nationals will be held as part of KBW, hosted by DAC. Dates 24th – 27th September. The NOR dates will be altered and resubmitted.
NB THESE DATES COULD BE CHANGED OR CANCELLED DEPENDANT ON COVID -19 SITUATION.
