Cape 2 Rio. It’s a Wrap

Having reported on the first week of racing in last month’s magazine, it’s time to wrap up the race.




Watching from ashore and following many of the boats, it’s clear that the first week was a right of passage for many of the yachts and crews as we saw two yachts retire and Voortrekker II sink after encountering problems with her rudder.




The southern portion of the South Atlantic Ocean is and always will be a tough place to sail and the ocean spares no-one from its sometime ferocious nature. It’s always the first week out that is generally the toughest sailing and you just have to buckle down, hang on, get used to
